What is namekit?

namekit is a free collection of AI-powered naming tools built specifically for developers, indie hackers, and founders. We know how much time goes into picking the right name — it has to work as a domain, a GitHub slug, an npm package, and a brand. We built namekit to make that faster.

How it works

Every generator is powered by Google Gemini 2.5 Flash. We've crafted specific prompts for each use case so the output is practical — not generic. Each run returns eight suggestions, and every suggestion includes a short rationale so you understand why it works, not just what it is. Results are brainstorming assistance, not legal advice or an availability check — see how suggestions are created below.

How NameKit creates suggestions

NameKit doesn't maintain its own database of names. Instead, each generator turns what you enter into something Google Gemini can work with:

  • 1. You provide a description, keywords, audience, industry, or preferred style in the form fields.
  • 2. NameKit builds a task-specific prompt tailored to that generator.
  • 3. Google Gemini produces eight name suggestions, each with a short rationale explaining the thinking behind it.

NameKit does not check live trademark, domain, repository, package registry, company registry, or app-store databases. A suggested name may already be in use elsewhere. You are responsible for independently verifying domain availability, trademarks, company names, package registries (npm, PyPI, etc.), app stores, and code repositories before committing to a name.

About the author

namekit was built and is maintained by Youssef Aaouam, a web designer, web app developer, and independent investor. After years of shipping side projects and client work, the naming step was always the same time-sink — burning an evening on a project name before writing a line of code. namekit exists to fix that for other developers: fast, practical suggestions that work as a starting point for a domain, a GitHub slug, or an npm package, not just a cute label. Youssef also writes the naming guides on the namekit blog, which focus on the same practical, developer-specific naming constraints — domains, repo slugs, package registries, and platform review rules — rather than general branding advice. namekit is free to use and doesn't require an account, though temporary technical or usage limits may apply from time to time.
